Lower Back Pain

10/6/2014

Lower back pain can mold mild to severe.

Severe low back pain can cause you to lean to the side. You can't stand straight because your body is leaning away from the painful joints or away from a nerve root that is getting pinched.

While I've practiced in Roseville for the past 27 years, my experience is that going to the chiropractor when the pain or stiffness starts is much smarter.

Early chiropractic treatment can help you avoid days off work and using up the medicine bottle.

Come into our Roseville office and we will help you out.

Sciatica - do you have it?

Sciatica is a pinching or compression of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve comes from the lower back or lumbar spine. The cause is a disc that is bulging into the nerve root space or from inflammation or bone spur coming from the facet joints.

Most of the time you will feel pain, numbness or tingling down the back of the leg into the foot. Depending in the severity of the nerve compression and the time the pressure has been on the nerve will effect the symptoms.

The majority of sciatica conditions can be treated conservatively with chiropractic care, exercise and time. Others need injections (10%) and surgery for a few (5%).

Sprained joints in the lower back or sprained sacroiliac joints can be confused for true sciatica. These conditions can be resolved at the chiropractor quite quickly.

These conditions usually don't produce pain down the leg past the knees. Pain in the buttocks, front of the thigh or outside of the thigh usually indicate a sacroiliac or facet sprain.

For more information come to our Roseville chiropractic office. Our Roseville chiropractors are there Monday through Saturday.

3 Keys to avoid Low Back Pain

10/3/2014

There are ways to AVOID lower back pain. Chiropractic treatment is great but never having pain is better.

Here are the 3 Keys.

1. Flexibility is key.   Normal flexibility is normal when you are young but as we age or have injuries flexibility starts to decrease. Stretching on a daily basis will help you avoid back issues. Knees to the chest, hamstrings and quadriceps need to stay flexible.

2. Strength is the next key. If you are young and balance on curbs, have PE and stay active then you are probably okay. Core strengthening for the small stabilizing muscles in your back are the key. Bird dogs, planks, bridges and other balance exercises.

3. Minimize sitting. If you have a sitting job, get up and move every 45-60 mins. Sitting compressing your discs will eventually get your back unless you do all you can to minimize the effects of sitting. Standing desks, stretching each hour, seating discs can help.

Chiropractic treatment keeps your back flexible and your discs healthy. Come to our Roseville office and see our chiropractors for more tips.

Stress Relief may be Pain Relief

We often forget to get out of our comfort zone and into a relaxed mode.

Your back pain, headaches, or neck pain may have some relation to stress.

Getting out of the house, watching a sporting event (high school, college or professional) may be a good way to increase your social life and get energized.

It may motivate you or remind you of the good ole days when you were out there. Maybe you'll start to stretch and exercise again and get back to health.

I like going with my family. Maybe it's the ticket for you too.

This means Kaiser Permanente and Anthem Blue Cross will cover your chiropractic care at our our office in Roseville, Ca.

Our chiropractors have been treating State and Local government employees for years in Roseville, including City of Roseville employees. A few years ago due to budget cuts, Cal Pers cut the chiropractic coverage.

Numbness and tingling

Nerve root pinching in the neck can cause nerve pressure and effect the upper extremities and lower extremities as well.

Pinching of the nerves (nerve root compression) in the lower neck C6 will effect the thumb, pointer and middle fingers. One or all.

C7 nerve root pinching effects the #4 and #5 fingers (ring and pinkie).

If this is happening to you or you are having symptoms in your legs, chiropractic is often very helpful. If you catch it early it usually removes all the symptoms.

Our Roseville chiropractors have delt with the issues many times.

Kaiser does cover chiropractic care here in Roseville. We can check your chiropractic coverage to see if your employer bought the chiropractic rider.

There is a rumor that Cal-Pers will add chiropractic coverage back to their plans during the 2014 open enrollment. Check with your HR department to see if you are covered.

Usually the copayment is $10-15 and they allow 12-30 visits per year.

Hike to the Mountains

On these hot summer days, a good hike in the mountains is a great way to avoid the heat and get some exercise.

You'll burn a few extra calories at high altitude and breath less smog too. Be sure to bring extra water, the air is thin and you breath a little harder.

Come in for a chiropractic tune up if it's been awhile. Our Roseville office is open 6 days a week.
