Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain can mold mild to severe.

Severe low back pain can cause you to lean to the side. You can't stand straight because your body is leaning away from the painful joints or away from a nerve root that is getting pinched.

While I've practiced in Roseville for the past 27 years, my experience is that going to the chiropractor when the pain or stiffness starts is much smarter.

Early chiropractic treatment can help you avoid days off work and using up the medicine bottle.

Come into our Roseville office and we will help you out.

Sciatica - do you have it?

Sciatica is a pinching or compression of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve comes from the lower back or lumbar spine. The cause is a disc that is bulging into the nerve root space or from inflammation or bone spur coming from the facet joints.

Most of the time you will feel pain, numbness or tingling down the back of the leg into the foot. Depending in the severity of the nerve compression and the time the pressure has been on the nerve will effect the symptoms.

The majority of sciatica conditions can be treated conservatively with chiropractic care, exercise and time. Others need injections (10%) and surgery for a few (5%).

Sprained joints in the lower back or sprained sacroiliac joints can be confused for true sciatica. These conditions can be resolved at the chiropractor quite quickly.

These conditions usually don't produce pain down the leg past the knees. Pain in the buttocks, front of the thigh or outside of the thigh usually indicate a sacroiliac or facet sprain.

3 Keys to avoid Low Back Pain

10/3/2014

There are ways to AVOID lower back pain. Chiropractic treatment is great but never having pain is better.

Here are the 3 Keys.

1. Flexibility is key.   Normal flexibility is normal when you are young but as we age or have injuries flexibility starts to decrease. Stretching on a daily basis will help you avoid back issues. Knees to the chest, hamstrings and quadriceps need to stay flexible.

2. Strength is the next key. If you are young and balance on curbs, have PE and stay active then you are probably okay. Core strengthening for the small stabilizing muscles in your back are the key. Bird dogs, planks, bridges and other balance exercises.

3. Minimize sitting. If you have a sitting job, get up and move every 45-60 mins. Sitting compressing your discs will eventually get your back unless you do all you can to minimize the effects of sitting. Standing desks, stretching each hour, seating discs can help.

Chiropractic treatment keeps your back flexible and your discs healthy. Come to our Roseville office and see our chiropractors for more tips.
